How to connect to network (G, H, and M) drives from Mac OS
To connect to the shared Groups (G) drive
  1. Go to the Finder.
  2. From the Go menu, select Connect to Server.
  3. In the Server Address field, enter:
    smb://files.macalester.edu/groups
  4. To add it to the Favorite Servers list, click +.
  5. Enter your Macalester username and password when prompted.
  6. From the Groups folder, go to your department's folder.


To connect to your personal Home (H) drive
  1. Go to the Finder.
  2. From the Go menu, select Connect to Server.
  3. In the Server Address field, enter smb://files.macalester.edu/users. To add it to the Favorite Servers list, click +.
  4. Enter your Macalester username and password when prompted.
  5. Your personal H: drive folder with your Macalester username appears.


To connect to the Common (M) drive
  1. Go to the Finder.
  2. From the Go menu, select Connect to Server.
  3. In the Server Address field, enter smb://files.macalester.edu/common. To add it to the Favorite Servers list, click +.
  4. Enter your Macalester username and password when prompted.
  5. The Common folder appears.


To make a shortcut to the a shared-drive folder for future use, do one of the following:
  • To add a shortcut icon to the Dock, click-and-drag the folder to the spot on your dock next to the Trash icon.
  • To add a shortcut to the Finder window, click-and-drag the folder to the PLACES section located in the left pane.

To remove an expired shortcut from your favorites bar within Finder, hold down "Command" and drag it off the toolbar if you have an OS earlier than 10.7. An OS later than 10.7 requires "Option" instead.
